Job Description: Classroom Teacher
The qualified candidate will:
Planning
·Develop and turn in weekly lesson plans, which reflect the M.I.T.C.H.prescribed curriculum at least one week in advance
·Select appropriate long-range goals for the assigned courses
·Plan for the use of instructional objectives that are related to long-range goals
·Plan instructional activities at the appropriate level of difficulty and duration
·Select a variety of teaching methods and procedures along with a variety of student activities
·Incorporate technology into instruction as appropriate
·Be responsible for developing a yearlong plan as it relates to their particular grade and/or subject, demonstrating how the State Standards will be taught within that year
Implementation
·Review, preview, and/or state the purpose and objectives of the lesson
·Present instruction at the appropriate level of difficulty
·Present appropriate instructional activities
·Demonstrate knowledge of facts and concepts of the specific lesson
·Check for student understanding
·Provide guided practice in the classroom
·Provide independent practice activities when appropriate
·Implement appropriate motivational technique
·Employ appropriate levels of questioning techniques
Evaluation
·Make criteria and methods of evaluation clear and purposeful
·Use a variety of techniques to evaluate student progress
·Prepare tests which reflect course objectives and classroom learning activities
·Provide prompt evaluation and grading feedback
·Report and interpret student progress to parents/guardians
Interaction with Students
·Communicate effectively with students and parents
·Set and communicate appropriate expectations for student achievement
·Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, emotional, and social needs of students
·Demonstrate sensitivity in relating with students individually and in groups
·Be readily available to students and parents
·Promote student self-discipline and responsibility
·Recognize and reinforce positive student behavior
Interaction with Staff, School, and Community
·Communicate and work with appropriate support personnel
·Communicate and work with other staff members and administrators
·Inform administrators and/or appropriate school personnel of student progress, behavior, and attendance
·Cooperate and communicate with parents/guardians, including a weekly newsletter
·Share ideas, materials, and methods with other staff members
·Perform assigned non-instructional responsibilities and duties
·Demonstrate concern and involvement in total school responsibilities by sponsoring activities commensurate with interests and abilities
·Assume reasonable responsibility for student management throughout the entire building
Organization and Management
·Ensure the materials and information are presented appropriately to students
·Set up and maintain classroom/work areas for maximum effectiveness and safety
·Manage student behaviors in accordance with administrative regulations and guidelines, school board policies, and legal requirements
·Establish, communicate, and enforce guidelines for student behavior in a fair and consistent manner
·Manage disruptive behavior constructively
Professional Responsibilities
·Strive to keep curriculum and instructional practices current, and seek approval for use of material outside of Core Knowledge curriculum
·Select appropriate channels for resolving conflicts, concerns, and problems
·Adhere to school regulations and board policies
·Respond appropriately to concerns initiated by parents/guardians
·Complete duties effectively and promptly
·Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
·Provide and maintain accurate records and information
·Provide adequate plans and procedures for substitutes one week in advance
·Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
·Attend and participate in department/program, building, and parent conference meetings as scheduled
·Follow Oregon Public Charter School Handbook, the M.I.T.C.H. Student Handbook, district policies, and M.I.T.C.H. policies and procedures
·Notify supervisor immediately regarding any safety related problems and/or concerns
·Participate in staff development workshops or opportunities offered by the school
·Continue professional development as mandated by the State of Oregon
In addition to the responsibilities cited in the Classroom Teacher Job Description teachers assigned to special federal and state programs must abide by the legislation and the rules and regulations that govern program compliance.
Mandatory Reporting
Teachers are mandatory reporters.As a mandatory reporter if you have reasonable cause to believe a child with whom you have had contact is being abused or a person has abused a child, you MUST tell either the Department of Humans Services or law enforcement agency.Definitions of abuse are listed under ORS419B.005.
