General Information: Awesome job first graders! The Aesop’s Fables Musical was a huge success!!!! I was very proud of them all! Soon I will have a formal DVD for sale for $5.00. All proceeds will go toward an end of the year class party/reward! Thank you again for showing your support. Please send me an email if you would like to purchase a DVD.
We will have free dress on Tuesday! This is the free dress day we earned for being the “greenest” class in the month of March! It will be a nice reward for all their hard work last week.
The school coin collection is well underway! With much of our focus elsewhere last week our class got pretty behind. Please send in any coins you can find. This collection helps fund the school auction which is fast approaching. Look through your car, the bottom of purses, the laundry room, etc. Send in the coins with your child.
Speaking of the auction…..the auction committee is in need of more donations, especially the big ticket items. So if you or a relative have a vacation home, travel packages, or anything else that is fairly desirable and you would be willing to donate to the auction it would be greatly appreciated. Remember it is for the kids! J And it is tax deductible!
Extra Art Monday! Yeah! We will also have an earthquake safety assembly Monday afternoon.
Everyone LOVES pasta! If you do not know what to do for lunch or dinner Monday and Tuesday please head over to Pastini! Yummy! M.I.T.C.H will get 50% of the proceeds!
Riggs: And the journey continues… We will continue spelling list 7 on Monday and the challenge group will learn four more words. Please look over your child’s sentences and make sure all words are spelled correctly. This week we will add a quality adjective to our sentences. Starting next week they must include a quality adjective in at least one sentence and circle it on their nightly homework as well as their because phrases. I.E. The cat sat on the mat. The sly cat sat on the fabulous mat. Math: We will complete lessons 117-120 and written assessment 23. As we only completed two lessons last week new concepts introduced will be, writing number sentences for “equal groups” story problems, identifying intersecting and perpendicular lines, subtracting three digit numbers and money, and estimating the differences.
Core Knowledge (Social Studies, Literature, Science, Poetry, Sayings & Phrases) We are going to start our From olonies to Independence unit. Students will learn about the thirteen colonies and the people who lived in them. They will also learn about the colonists’ feelings about paying taxes to King George III of England. We will focus on the Boston Tea Party and the tea tax. Students will make posters to convince other colonists to stop drinking tea and come up with a motto for their poster. We will read The Boy at the Dike and complete a book report about the main character, the problem, and the solution in the story. Character Ed, Health, and Agriculture We will go out and make onion and strawberry observations and record these in our Ag Journals. We also will take turns watering our plants especially during this warm weather so we ensure the plants do not die. We will start our health unit this month. This month is all about staying healthy which includes eating and sleeping well, exercising, and hygiene. This week we will focus on good hand washing techniques. |
