Coming this week in 2nd Grade Riggs *** Please note that homework sentences now need to be a minimum of 7 words. We will be continuing to build charts this week to assist us in improving our writing. As we continue to use sentences in our daily spelling homework, please review the following information if there is any confusion on the process.
Your help is greatly appreciated. We realize this is a lot of information to digest and; if you have questions please contact us.
Excellence in Writing We are continuing to write paragraphs each week in class. The goal is have students utilize a resource text to create a key word outline, practice an oral paragraph, write a rough draft, and revise a final draft each week. While we are still focusing on content and structure, we are introducing style elements. This week’s paragraph is about corn.
Saxon This week we will be reading a thermometer to the nearest two degrees, using Guess and Check to solve a problem, collecting data, estimating sums, estimating measurement, and using centimeters. Our next assessments are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.
History and Geography We will be following the American expansion into Western North America.
Reading This week we will be reading the tall tale Johnny Appleseed.
Science We have begun working on our Science fair project! We now have a question, a hypothesis, and much of our background research completed. This week we will be focusing on our experiment and collection of data.
Field Trips Thank you so much for your continued patience as we have re-evaluated our budget and our field trips. See the emailed newsletter for specific details.
