Hello Families of M.I.T.C.H. 2nd graders,
It has been another great week in 2nd grade. We are making huge progress in our writing and developing a deeper understand of parts of speech and our writing dress-ups.
Homework the week of Nov. 21st-23rd:
Monday Riggs Homework: Letter Writing Practice Saxon Homework: 39b/Fact Homework 39b Reading for a minimum of 15 minutes
Tuesday Riggs Homework: Practice Addressing Envelopes, Finish Thank You Letters Saxon Homework: Problem Solving Practice 40a/b Reading for a minimum of 15 minutes
Wednesday Riggs Homework: Dress-up Practice Saxon Homework: 40b Fact Practice Reading for a minimum of 15 minutes
Coming this week in 2nd Grade Riggs This week in Riggs we will be learning how to write a proper thank you letter and addressing an envelope. We will use this opportunity to write thank you letters in class this week. We will also continue to practice dressing-up our writing.
Excellence in Writing This week students will finish up their buffalo paragraph from last week and begin working on a paragraph about adventurer Jedediah Smith.
Saxon This week we will be working on telling time to five minute intervals, identifying a.m. and p.m., identifying the number of minutes in an hour and hours in a day, using a drawing or table to solve a story problem, and we will have a fact assessment on Tuesday afternoon.
History and Geography This month we will be studying Westward Expansion. This week we will be discussing life for settlers, Native Americans, and the Trail of Tears.
Reading This week we will be reading the tall tale John Henry.
Sayings & Phrases We will be learning two idioms this week. The first is where there is a will there is way; the second is eaten out of house and home.
Poetry Buffalo Dusk and Something Told the Geese are the Core Knowledge poems we will be studying this week.
Parent Updates & Important Dates:
Miss Willner’s class has earned a class prize!!! They have voted to have Crazy Hair Day, due to science fair for the upper grades next week we have postponed our celebration until Thursday December 1st.
