Tuesday, Sept 8 is Open House, please bring your child’s school supplies at this time. Some of our desks are in need of adjusting, so bring a few tools and lets get everyone comfortable for the school year.
We still need a carpet donation for our meeting area (8x12’ or something in that size range), so if you have one you’d like to donate please let me know.
Well, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday, Sept. 13! Our first week is going to be getting to know each other and reviewing school rules and policies. We are going to have a wonderful year in third grade.
Morning Carline: Children may be dropped off starting at 7:30 a.m. We always
use a carline in the morning and in the afternoon. We have all parents follow the designated lines to drop off their child/children. An adult will open your car door and help your child out of their car. There are two lanes the outside lane is for NW ESD, our neighbor. The students are to use the crosswalk, and the cars are to watch for children crossing before driving forward. All children go into the building and to the gym. All students will sit in lines in the gym according to their class or grade. Teachers will come get their students at 7:45 sharp and walk them to their classrooms.
After School pick-up: Carline pickup starts at 3:20 p.m. as school is out at 3:15
p.m. and it takes a few minutes for students to go back up to the gym with all
their things. Every family has a bright green number issued to them. This
number must be put somewhere on the dash or held up for us to see when
picking up your student(s). Should you use carpool, please borrow the number
from the family to have with you. Please tell your teacher and email the office of
what your carpool looks like so we can better ensure the safety and limit the
confusion. The carline numbers are called out through walkie talkies to a person
in the gym who then calls them out tot he students. Knowing the carline number
is very helpful. You will be given two extra carline numbers that are smaller; they
are for your child’s back pack. That way we can help the child when its time to
go.
Please make arrangements to pick-up your child after school or to enroll in our
after school program. Typically the office staff is unavailable to answer the
phone after 3:45 p.m. Should you be really late, your child will be in the aftercare
program with Elizabeth, kindergarten teacher or with Angela, second grade teacher. After-care runs until 5:30 p.m. daily.
Important Folders Please check though your child's folder. Take home items (papers) are folded lengthwise and should have some type of correction on them, that means they can stay at home. Please keep them for a few weeks in case there is a discrepancy on whether it has been turned in. All notes to you will be in the left hand pocket of their folder, too, along with their homework. If your child forgets homework at home it will cost them a homework pass (they have 5 per term) or if they couldn't get homework done the homework pass will buy them an extra day without having to go to the homework table at lunch. I will still make a notation (HW) in their Important Folder calendar. A parent’s initials need to be on the read_______ section, 15-20 minutes per day. There will be some type of incentive for reading every night and it helps to increase your child's fluency and love for reading. Reading to them counts, too.
Homework Policy
During the term each student will be allowed five “homework passes.” These passes allow students an excused one school day pass for their homework. The assignment must be completed by the following school day. If students utilize all their homework passes and continue to miss homework, recess and/or lunch detention may be used for students to make up work. If this is on-going concern a parent/teacher meeting will be set-up to discuss the best solution for the child.
Students who have been absent will have one-week to complete their missed work. During the absence, student’s work will be collected in their absent folder. It will be available for pick-up at the end of the school day. Please feel free to contact me if you would like make other arrangements.
Holiday Policy
All student birthdays can be celebrated during 15 minutes of class if pre-scheduled with the teacher. We would like to honor each child on their birthday by having them bring their favorite book or story to share with their classmates. This donated book (used or new) will have special recognition inside the cover. The book or story is then added to the class library.I would like to extend an invitation to have a special family member or friend come in to read the story to the class.Summer birthdays can be celebrated anytime during the year. Please email me to schedule a day.
*Please note we do not allow food treats for birthday celebrations.
M.I.T.C.H. Mystery Question: What is your child looking forward to learning in third grade? Have your child write down their answer on a sticky note by Wednesday and they can put it in the agenda box at school to earn a ticket.
Reading Bring a book from home or check one out from me. Every child should be reading something at their level.
