FEBRUARY February 1, Spelling Bee 8am February 9, New York Speakers during school time February 16, Colonial Presentations 6-7:30pm February 20, Presidents Day NO SCHOOL *Progress Report: Your child will be bringing home a progress report every Wednesday. If something is highlighter it needs to be completed and attached to the back of the progress report (math stays in their math folder). Use a sticky note on the page that is finished or corrected. Sticker or stamp means that your child is caught up and they earned 15-20 minutes of free time on a Thursday, otherwise they can use that time to correct or get their homework done. If your child is sick or misses school they will most likely be catching up with missed work during this time. Please sign the bottom of the progress report and your child will earn a ticket for handing it in on Thursday. If something is highlighted but it has a due date that is after today, just remind your child to complete the assignment by the due date. Tuesday/Thursdays Music Monday/Wednesday PE(please wear tennis shoes)
We are writing in cursive! All letters of the alphabet have been practiced and your child is well on their way to writing beautifully in cursive. When we practice our spelling words they will be written in columns in our Spelling Folders and English Notebooks; however always practice in green Spelling Folder. If you should see a pencil check to the left of the red margin in your child's English Notebook that means to practice the word 5 times for each check, an M to the left of the margin line means a marking has been missed and that word needs to be practiced 3 times in their Green Spelling folder. Mrs. Stouder’s group will bring the actual test home so they can write their missed words. Once your child has mastered this system it works beautifully, if you participate they can show you how the system works and it makes them feel proud of their work.
Writing – This week we are writing journal entries all week and working on our colonial brochures. Visual aids are needed for their colonial presentations. These can be any of the following; a poster, clothing that they wear, a model, etc.. Dress ups are in your child’s English Notebook (16a) and should be added to their rough draft and final copies (left hand margin). We will be working on collecting information about your child’s colony for their brochures and paragraphs this week. Several students must re-write their family paragraphs with the rubric on pg. 17 in their English Notebook.
