Spelling lessons will be daily and the speed we go will be based on the student’s abilities. We use the spelling lists from the Riggs level II Manual and writing frequency words.

Writing lessons will be ongoing throughout the year. Writing assignments will be across the curriculum. Writing lessons will
consist of lessons from the Institute for Excellence in Writing combined with the Six plus One Traits of Writing...

Jr. Great Book selections will be picked and selected throughout the year to
correspond with other
subjects we are learning.

 

Students will be
required to have a DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) book of their choosing at their reading level,
and approved by me.
These are to be chapter books.

 

Each month students will turn in a RAH (Reading at Home) form and complete Reading Responses and Book Reports as assigned.

 

Reader’s Theaters that
correlate with Core
Knowledge studies will
also be used.

 

Students will have a sayings and phrase book which they will work on throughout the year…
