Congratulations to Manasi and Divya for taking first and second place in the MITCH Charter School Spelling Bee. They had obviously prepared well for the competition. The 5th Grade class was all extremely proud of their accomplishment. We wish Manasi all the best as she goes on to compete at the regional level.
Writing:Sayings and Phrases: The Sayings and Phrases packet is a major part of students writing grade. The Excellence In Writing format is to be used for student’s Sayings and Phrase packets. See the inside cover of the sayings and phrase packet for the grading criteria. Students must mark their dress-up and openers in the margins to receive full credit.

Weekly Spelling/Vocabulary: Monday and Wednesday Stories with new words. Tuesday Wordly Wise Lesson 10 C and Thursday Wordly Wise Lesson 10 D and E.
Spelling Assignment Stories:Fifth graders need 4 dress-ups and 4 openers in all writing pieces. The handouts in their DOGs are helpful tools to refer to when looking for openers and dress-ups. This is such a wonderful writing program and it is becoming second nature to many! Please contact me to arrange a meeting with your student if they are still struggling with dress-ups and openers. I am willing to meet after school or even on a Friday by appointment.

Heifer International Service Project Update: Baggies went home on Thursday explaining the all school Heifer International Service Project. The class has decided to donate 50% of January and February profits to Heifer International. We also will make GAK and to sell and donate 100 % of the proceeds. There is a donation jar too for students to donate their allowance or money they earn from chores. They are extremely excited about giving an animal to a family in third world who is in need. Enthusiasm about this project is contagious!
