December 2, 2011 Happy Friday Parents,
We are concluding our Don Quixote unit with Readers Theaters written by the 5th Grade class. Students have enjoyed the humor of the author and it is a great book to have focused on the writing strategies of prediction, inference, visualization, cause and effect, and evaluate.
Engrade: Yes, the beginning of a new term! Keep checking Engrade this term to support, encourage, and praise your children when they need and deserve it most.
Poetry Books: Students have written poems and they need to start typing them at home and bringing final drafts to school. The final drafts need to fit in our books that have pages that are 6”X6”. Final drafts of poems are due Monday, December 12th. We will be writing more poems to include our books but want to keep the process of making the books moving forward. Thanks for playing tag team with this project!
History: The Renaissance era is fascinating and while reading our text we have learned how through plagues and famine the re-birth of a culture causes many great opportunities for improvement. Students are in the process of writing a mini essay on the invention of the printing press while utilizing the Excellence In Writing techniques.
Vocabulary/Spelling: For the month of December we will continue to use three openers and three dress-ups for stories but in January we will increase both the openers and dress-ups to four. Remember use the handouts in the DOG to help with prepositional phrases and other criteria for markings.

5th Grade Student Store: Wow we had our best week ever! There are some great gift items for students to purchase for family members. Next week Student Store workers are: Madison, Natalie, Mikayla, and Christian.
