Math + Homework = Daily! Students will have math homework every day. Because we're applying Saxon's 5-day curriculum to our 4-day week, I will assign homework each day, even on test days, and we will ofter double-up on Thursdays. Each new concept is built upon the concept from the previous lesson. Therefore, students must not fall behind in their homework! Tests = 80% of the final grade. 20 points per test based on accuracy. There will be a test following every 5 lessons. The tests are similar to the daily lessons but with 10 less problems. Therefore, if students are learning and practicing the math concepts by participating in class, completing and correcting homework, they will do well on tests. Students may retake tests on which they scored less than 80%. Retakes must be prescheduled for before or after school. Homework= 20% of the final grade. To do homework successfully and earn full credit, students must...
Grading = 2 points for completed and corrected homework; 1 point for completed but not corrected homework; 0 points for late or incomplete work. Correcting = Students will correct their peer's work with a highlighter. Answers given without showing the work behind them (when applicable) will receive partial or zero credit. A designated student will record scores at each table. On their own assignments, they will correct each problem they missed and turn it in the same day. If a student does not correct an assignment accurately, it will be considered cheating. They will receive zero credit on their own assignment and parents will be notified. Daily Routine: Math block is from 9:00-10:15 a.m. The first 15 minutes are dedicated to the Power-Up, including timed facts practice and mental math. For the following 10 minutes, students will switch papers and correct the previous night’s homework with a highlighter. The next 15 minutes will be spent introducing the New Concept and doing the Practice Set to solidify the concept. The remainder of the class will be used to correct homework errors and begin the Written Practice from the new lesson. Textbooks must be covered with paper bags ONLY (no fabric covers). If books are not returned or are damaged beyond minimal wear-and-tear, the student’s parent(s) will be charged $75 to replace the lost or damaged book. Please do not bring a math book on vacation. Online Access: We will set up student access to the textbook so that students can log in and view the complete text from any internet browser. While on vacation or in the case that a student does not bring the book home, it is still possible to complete the homework! |
