This will be my sixth year teaching art at M.I.T.C.H. Prior to that, I was the Artist in Resident at Markham Elementary in SW Portland for eight years, and also worked in short term art residencies at six other schools. I started out in Fine Arts in college and then switched to Interior Architecture. Although a career in this area didn’t fit, I find that the design emphasis helps me develop curriculum and sequence ideas in the classroom. (This just means that I have as much fun as the kids. )
I am married, and have two daughters, one post college and one still attending. In addition to teaching I am an emerging artist and you can learn more about me at: www.Suelau.com and also www.Elysiumartists.com
In many school districts, the teaching of visual arts is diminishing or nonexistent. I am thrilled to be associated with a school that is committed to connected art curriculum and hands on weekly art lessons. |
