M.I.T.C.H  ART  CLASSROOM  GUIDELINES

Teacher: Mrs Lau  (rhymes with "now")

I think all people are wired for creativity. I teach art through the inspiration and direction of Core Knowledge art history; studying various artists and through my own art discoveries. Students receive demonstrations and models on how to do all of the projects before they start their own work. Please leave a message at school for concerns or questions, or email me at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

ART STUDIO RULES FOR STUDENTS

1. DO YOUR BEST

Pay attention closely to directions. I expect students to use the criteria demonstrated to learn specific elements and principles of art.

Making art has a beginning, and a middle and an end. Thoughtful creative process is just as important as the end project.

Artists have deadlines and most projects are completed in one or two class sessions.

2. RESPECT TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Art materials are expensive and shared by all classrooms. Deliberate mess making or misuse of a tool or art material is not permitted.

3. RESPECT IDEAS

Refrain from negative comments on your own work, or any other students. We will learn to use art related vocabulary to critique art work.

All art work is given back to students at the end of each term. Please share your projects with your parent(s) or guardian(s). Student art is not recycled at school. Please display your work at home and consider taking a picture of what you do not have room for as a record of artistic growth.

4. STUDIO TIME

This is an active quiet time for art making and limited talk. The art room is an open classroom area and noise level is kept low to maximize creativity. Music will be played for most of our create time.

5. QUIET WALK AROUND

This is an all class all class activity when I announce it. Students pause their work. They get up, push in their chairs and wait for direction to do an orderly gallery walk to see each students art work in process. Students are offered reflection time to comment on what they observed using directed art vocabulary.

6. DISCIPLINE POLICY

Complies with school wide plan.
