Holiday and Birthday Policy

M.I.T.C.H. Charter School has a policy against holiday celebrations unless the holiday correlates with the Core Knowledge Curriculum. Because of this policy please understand that Halloween costumes or candy, Valentine's Cards, etc. will not be allowed. Please refrain from giving holiday cards or treats in student mailboxes/cubbies. If you child is having a birthday party outside of school, please deliver the invitations via the U.S. Postal Service so that nobody feels left out or is distracted by the upcoming event. Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated.

All students are invited to celebrate their birthday for during 15 minutes of class on a day that the parent schedules in advance with the teacher. We would like to honor each child on their birthday by having them donate their favorite book or story. The student will have the opportunity to tell his/her peers why this is his/her favorite story. I would like to extend an invitation to have a special family member or friend come in to read the story to the class. Summer birthdays can be celebrated anytime during the year. The chosen donated book will have special recognition inside the cover made by Mrs. Fisher. (Or you can make your own.) The book or story is then added to the class library. If your child does not want to share a book, he or she may choose his or her favorite item from home to share with peers. Please know what your child is bringing and check for appropriateness. If you are unsure, ask me. Please email me several days in advance to schedule a day. It is the parent’s responsibility to set up a birthday sharing and must be done in advance.

**Please note we do not allow food treats for birthday celebrations.**
