Elements of Music: All grades will study music fundamentals: rhythm, harmony, melody and form. Dynamics, articulation, tempi, timbre, and phrasing are elements of tmusical nuance we will experience.
Listening and Understanding: All grades can appreciate music from our own culture and others around the world. Study of classical music helps us appreciate how present day music systems developed; and we can take pride learning about our own unique forms: blues and jazz improvisation.
Instrument Studies: The music room provides students with opportunities to play barred instruments, ukuleles, electric keyboards, guitars, orchestral bells and a variety of percussion instruments. Our knowledge of music theory will aid in music reading.
Songs: Songs from a historical perspective are suggested by Core Knowledge Curriculum. In addition, students will analyse contemporary material and apply themselves to song and lyric writing.
Composition: Reading and writing music make for a solid foundation, and lead to a greater appreciation of music. Composition requires that students gain a fluency in the language of music. We will utilize our two iPads to learn about music software and sequencing.
