Music Teacher
Hello MITCH families, My name is Mandy Coffee and as the new music teacher I’m excited to hear about how music influences your families lives and how that can be expressed here in our beautiful MITCH community. I have been in music education for over 10 years in many capacities, such as community choirs, church choirs, music classes and camps and I am a director and administrator for the Oregon Repertory Singers youth choirs. I received my Bachelors of Music Education in 2008 and just completed my Masters of education this past summer. I have taught in the David Douglas district, the Hillsboro school district and at Oregon Episcopal School over the past 6 years. I sing in professional choirs and enjoy music in so many ways. I’m excited to now have the opportunity to get to know MITCH, and to develop musical concepts, skills and ensembles together. Music really enhances a multi-sensory curriculum and I am already in the works with the schools teachers at all grades to enhance and reinforce their curriculum with music. Music is a beautiful way to learn community in its diversity and power. Just listening to melody, rhythm, harmony and all the intrinsic details in music helps open us to work together as a community the same way. I have strong values in learning about the whole world through music (not just western music). We can learn about our history, our nation and it’s regions and so much more through music. These are just a few of the goals that will be presented this year. Our classroom has Guitars, Soprano Ukulele’s, Keyboards and many wonderful Orff instruments in our classroom and we will use them all, all year long. I would love to see a great volunteer group organized this year for music; the classroom is often in need of help organizing, and transitional set-up of instruments or units. We also have four performances this year that will need a strong volunteer group in place in order for it to be successful. A little about me, I reside in West Linn with my wonderful husband and two stepsons who are going into 4th and 6th grade. I love entertaining, quilting and my dogs. My family is very important to me and so if I’m not at MITCH, I’m taking care and enjoying them. I’m looking forward to learning more about you this upcoming school year!
