To all Tigard MITCH Charter School Parents,
Over the course of last year MITCH Charter School in Tigard was required by the Tigard-Tualatin School District to separate itself from Sherwood Charter School at most levels in order to gain our contract renewal from the district and to separate financial and operational procedures of the two schools.
Sherwood Charter School filed and received its own 501 (c)(3) Non-profit status earlier this school year. According to best practices that guide non-profit entities, Sherwood needed to establish its own school Board. This prompted the original full Board governing both schools to successfully establish an independent Board for each school. The action further resulted in the dissolution of the original full Board.
Tigard MITCH Charter School is pleased to introduce the newly established school Board, which will be leading the school through the 2009-2010 school year. Our board membership slate, as of July 1st, will include: Shana Hildreth, Chair; Joel Smith, Vice-chair; Wayne Laird, Treasurer, David Uslan, Assistant Treasurer, Gordon Fiddes, Secretary, Stephanie Rickert, Member; Patricia Saier, Member. The new Board is very excited about the opportunity to serve our school with unified passion and purpose.
We are so thankful for all those that have helped make this school year a success. The school auction generated close to $18,000 this year. Thank you again for all that worked so hard to make the event sparkle. The school would not be where it is today if not for the 100s of hours worked by those parents that volunteer. So in planning ahead for the coming school year, please keep these volunteer opportunities in mind. We are in need of a Parent Committee Chairperson, a Parent Events Coordinator, a Parent Volunteer Coordinator, and a Parent Class Representative from each class. Tigard MITCH Charter school continues to be a school of excellence in high demand. We just completed our Spring Lottery and have long waiting lists established for every class next year. As fellow parents we are thankful to have our children in such a great school, and as the School Board and Staff, we will continue to work hard at providing a positive and progressive educational environment for each and every student in attendance.
