Community Culture

At MITCH Charter School, we are dedicated to fostering a strong sense of belonging for every student. Our diversity is our strength, and we celebrate it by listening to families, engaging staff, and holding reflective conversations to improve Culturally Responsive Teaching and Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

Our school culture is built on three pillars from our School Board's Equity Statement:

Access:
Ensuring equitable access to excellent educators who empower and inspire students.
Inclusion:
Creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and included, celebrating the unique talents, backgrounds, and lifestyles of our families.
Opportunity:
Combining access and inclusion to make MITCH a beacon of excellence in our community.

Our School Leadership and Board of Directors guide these principles through policies like the All Students Belong Rule, embedding equity-driven practices into the heart of our school.

School Life

Recess:
Two daily recesses—one 15-minute grade-level break monitored by teachers and a 20-minute lunch recess supervised by specials teachers and instructional assistants.
K-2 have a 3rd 10-minute recess at the end of the day.

Lunch:
Students eat in their classrooms or at outdoor tables during good weather. MITCH also provides free daily breakfast and lunch (optional). Please contact the teacher for more information.

Homework Expectations:
Grade-level homework varies but typically includes reading, math, and occasional projects.

Uniform Guidelines:
Refer to the Family Handbook on the Family Resources page.

Small Class Sizes:
Smaller classes mean more individual attention, reduced anxiety about participation, and stronger peer connections.
  • Kindergarten: Maximum of 15 students.
  • 1st–5th Grade: Maximum of 20 students.
    • 1st Grade can go up to 22 students.

MITCH offers a variety of after-school clubs to enhance student learning and engagement:
  • Club-K After School Zone
