​Early Literacy Summer School

A joyful, no-cost summer of reading growth, confidence, and connection
The MITCH Early Literacy Summer School is a FREE program exclusively for current incoming 1st-3rd grade MITCH students, designed to strengthen foundational reading skills in a supportive, engaging environment. Through small-group instruction and hands-on learning, students build confidence while continuing their literacy growth over the summer.

​Program Details

  • Eligibility: MITCH students only
  • Grades Served: Incoming 1st - 3rd​
  • Cost: FREE
  • Dates: July 27 - August 14, 2026 
  • Days & Times: 
    • Mon-Fri, 3 consecutive weeks (not a drop-in class)
    • Session 1: 8:30 - 11:20 AM, or
    • Session 2: 12:15 - 3:00 PM
  • Location: MITCH Charter School

Focus & Experience for Students

Our summer school combines targeted instruction with hands-on learning so students stay engaged and motivated.

​This program focuses on:
  • Letter-sound knowledge (phonics)
  • Reading fluency
  • Vocabulary and comprehension
  • Writing stamina and sentence building
  • Confidence and enjoyment in reading

​Students will experience:
  • Small-group reading instruction
  • Phonics-based practice and word work
  • Guided reading and read-alouds
  • Writing and storytelling activities
  • Hands-on literacy centers and games
  • Community-building and teamwork activities
